The Last Lifeline for Amputees in Gaza
The Artificial Limb and Polio Centre (ALPC) in Gaza is the first and oldest facility providing prosthetic, orthotic, and rehabilitation services. Established in 1976, it remains the sole centre of its kind in the region, serving thousands of people affected by decades of conflict and instability.
Today, ALPC faces unprecedented pressure. The recent conflict has left over 150,000 people wounded, with 5,000–10,000 amputations reported. Staff shortages, limited materials, and frequent electricity outages are crippling its ability to respond. Without urgent support, many patients risk being left without the devices and rehabilitation they desperately need.
Unprecedented Pressure
Today, ALPC faces unprecedented pressure. The recent conflict has left over 150,000 people wounded, with 5,000–10,000 amputations reported. Staff shortages, limited materials, and frequent electricity outages are crippling its ability to respond. Without urgent support, many patients risk being left without the devices and rehabilitation they desperately need.
Islamic Help is working with ALPC to:
- Provide prosthetic and orthotic devices to amputees and those with physical injuries.
- Support rehabilitation services including physiotherapy, mental health, and social inclusion.
- Strengthen ALPC’s capacity through additional staff, training, and medical materials.
- Install renewable solar energy to ensure uninterrupted services despite power cuts.
Your Support
By supporting Gaza’s only prosthetic and orthotic centre, you can help restore mobility and independence for amputees and injured patients, dramatically improving their quality of life through assistive devices and holistic rehabilitation. Your contribution promotes both physical and psychological recovery, enabling patients to reintegrate into society with dignity and confidence. Most importantly, it safeguards the future of a vital facility, offering hope to Gaza’s most vulnerable patients and ensuring they are not left behind.
A Life of Mobility
Gaza is now home to over 4,500 new amputees, in addition to 1,500 existing patients who rely on prosthetic limbs. That’s 6,000 people - men, women, and children - waiting to walk again, to regain independence, and to rebuild their lives with dignity.
Every prosthetic limb is made locally by hand, with care, compassion, and precision by ALPC. We provide the entire healing journey: from initial consultations and pre-prosthetic care, to limb fabrication, physical rehabilitation, and psychological support for those coping with trauma and loss.
This lifeline is powered by a dedicated team of orthopaedic doctors, prosthetic technicians, physiotherapists, and psychologists - all working together to give each patient the best possible outcome. But the need is growing fast, and resources are running low.
With your support, we can give Gaza’s amputees a second chance at living a life defined by independence mobility. Donate today.
