Widespread Devastation
On the night of 31st August 2025, a powerful magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, shaking the provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar, centred near Jalalabad. Entire villages built from mud and stone were destroyed. Remote communities were buried in rubble, and efforts to reach them are ongoing, with the death toll increasing by the hour.
Over 800 People Killed
Initial reports indicate a heartbreaking loss of life, with at least 800 confirmed dead. Thousands are injured, and more than 2,000 people may now be bearing the burden of unimaginable injury and loss. Local rescue efforts are underway, but landslides and damaged roads have made access dangerously difficult. Entire villages built with mud-brick structures have collapsed. As winter approaches, the urgency of this crisis intensifies - shelter, warmth, and medical care are now matters of life and death
